Rome at a Glance
Rome was amazing–loved it. Ridiculous amounts of art and history.
Friday:
The National Museum– Discobolos (the Disk Thrower), lots of Roman statues and mosaics and the world’s largest coin collection
Piazza del Popolo–absolutely beautiful, especially at night
Spanish Steps–beautiful view of the city and sunset
Emmanuel Vittore Monument–once again, beautiful at night
Saturday:
Vatican Museum– Laocoon and His Sons, the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo, Raphael, paintings, sculptures, mosaics, sarcophagi….
St. Peter’s Basilica–more Michelangelo (the Pieta), climbed the dome, more statues, lots of gold
The Pantheon–very awesome, amazing feat of architecture
Trevi Fountain–super awesome at night
Hard Rock Cafe!–cheeseburger with CHEDDAR cheese and Heinz ketchup!
Sunday:
the Roman Forum (ruins)–very….ruined. Amazing how much is still standing, though, considering it’s thousands of years old
a crazy street performer–reminded me of Johnny Depp in Benny and Joon
the Colosseum–the outside anyway, real big, real round
the Catacombs–AMAZING (no pictures, sorry, not allowed)
I know that’s all VERY concise, but I’m headed out for spring break tomorrow and wanted to get this up before I leave.
I’ll be in Ireland (Dublin and Cork), Scotland (Edinburgh) and England (London) for the next week. I’m pretty excited.
